Edith Bruhn, 101, of Le Mars and formerly of Preston, Iowa passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at the Miles Presbyterian Church, Miles, Iowa. Private family inurnment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Miles Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars and Miller, Law, Jones Funeral Home of Preston. Edith Bernice Schlegel was born in rural Jackson County, Iowa on October 7, 1907 to Thadeus H. and Addie (Sims) Schlegel. She attended rural grade school and later graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1925. Edith was united in marriage to Wilbur Bruhn on November 5, 1931 at Cambridge, Illinois. Edith and Wilbur owned the Miles Cafe in the 1950’s. Edith was known for her cooking and baking skills. She also cooked for the Preston School for several years. Edith was very active with the Miles Presbyterian church where she had served several years as an Elder. She enjoyed flower gardening and growing vegetables of which she enjoyed sharing with friends and neighbors. Wilbur passed away in 1992 and in 2000
Edith moved to Le Mars to be closer to her daughter, Kay. In June of 2005, Edith became a resident of Good Samaritan in le Mars.

Edith is survived by a son, Gene Bruhn and his wife Bernice of Noblesville, Indiana; a daughter Kay Koch and her husband, Norman of Le Mars, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Ethyl Dethmann of Clinton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur; two daughters, Karen Bruhn and Barbara Richards; a grandson, Richard McHenry; and a great granddaughter, Michelle White.
