Marvin Edward “Brownie” Sprecher, age 83, of Hanover, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, October 29, 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Hanover with Father Everett J. Hiller as Celebrant and assisted by Deacon Dave Wilbricht. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hanover, with Military Rites accorded by the Hanover Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #5300. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2007, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Hanover. Brownie was born on May 20, 1924, the son of Art and Ethel (Strait) Sprecher in Spring Green, Wisconsin. He graduated from Lone Rock High School in 1943. Brownie served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War. On October 21, 1950, Brownie married Margaret Fern Phillips in San Diego, California, and they recently celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary. Brownie worked as a security guard at the Savanna Army Depot until his retirement in 1987. During his retirement, Brownie enjoyed his many years as sexton of the Hanover cemeteries. Brownie’s favorite past-time was spending time with his family, whom he adored. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy, and he enjoyed having a special treat ready for them at each visit. Brownie’s other interests included playing cards and gardening. He was known for his generosity and was loved by all who knew him. Brownie will be dearly missed by his wife Fern; four daughters, Linda Schoenmann of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, Brenda Sprecher of Lone Rock, Wisconsin, Diana (Tom) Taylor of Columbia, Missouri, and Pam (Eric) Wheelwright of Elizabeth, Illinois; one son, Perry Sprecher (special friend Jeannie Carter) of Hanover, Illinois; six grandchildren, Chad (Trang) Sprecher of Beijing, China, Brooke and Morgan Wheelwright of Elizabeth, Illinois, Tina (Jeff) Adams of Aurora, Missouri, Michele and Keria Sprecher of Hanover, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Wil Adams and Zoe Sprecher; two step-grandchildren, Grant Taylor of Columbia, Missouri, and Gavin Carter of Hanover, Illinois; two brothers, Walter (Beulah) Sprecher of Sauk City, Wisconsin, and Milton Sprecher of Spring Green, Wisconsin; three sisters, Arline Pace of Altadena, California, Lorna (Wayne) Anderson of Sauk City, Wisconsin, and Lorene Erickson of Racine, Wisconsin; and sisters-in-law Lorene Sprecher of Plain, Wisconsin, and Florence Sprecher of Spring Green, Wisconsin. Brownie is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Orville, Ervin, Harlan, and Lawrence Sprecher; sisters-in-law Mollie and Shirley Sprecher; brother-in-law Bob Erickson; and son-in-law Bob Schoenmann.
