  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

BARBARA JANE MEACHAM
Barbara Jane Meacham (Ford) was born October 28, 1923 in Dallas County Iowa to John D. Ford and Maude Elizabeth Costigan Ford. She died peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones at Guthrie County Hospital on May 7, 2009.

Barb attended and graduated from Linden High School on May 15th, 1941. The very next day she, her fiancé and her parents traveled to Bethany Missouri so she could become the child bride of Floyd Meacham. They said she was pregnant and that it would never last. Guess she fooled them all on both accounts!

Barb and Floyd raised four children, many crops and lots of love on their farm. She loved cooking, gardening, harvesting and canning the fruits of her labor. No one could cook like Barb. She won the best gooseberry pie contest during RAGBRAI and her pies have gone for top dollar at auctions. She and Floyd had just planted this years garden.

Barbara was extremely devoted to her faith, her family, and her husband. She served her community as Vice President of the Dallas County Farm Bureau Women’s Club and belonged to the Redfield Federated Women’s Club, Redfield United Methodist Women’s Club, Pearidge Farm Bureau Club and was a devoted member of the Redfield United Methodist Church where she served as Chairman of the finance committee and board chair as well as many other duties.

She leaves behind and will be missed terribly by her husband Floyd of 67 years. Their 68th anniversary would have been May 16th. Also sons Stephen Meacham(Patricia), John Meacham of Panora, Jay(Mary) Meacham of Kearney, MO. and one daughter, Candace Milbourn(Roger) of Panora. One sister, Nancy Murphy of Boulder City, Nevada. Thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and long time friends.

Memorials can be made to the Redfield Methodist Church.

Friendship Garden

I walked along a garden path,
And viewed the flowers fair,
That once were only little seeds,
Some mortal planted there.

The fragrance sweet, that filled the air,
Bright colors in array,
Brought back such happy memories,
As twi-light took the day.

I journeyed through the many years,
Recalling those I'd known,
Each different, as the lovely flowers,
In friendship’s garden grown.

But flowers too, though Heaven sent,
Cannot for-ever stay.

Yes; every now and then God picks,
A bloom of beauty, rare,
To give those left more room to grow,
More fragrance sweet to share.

Grieve not for blooms that He has picked,
For in a special place,
Along with those He took before,
They smile into His face…………
