VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES
| | | DALE WILLIAM VON RENTZELL
Dale William von Rentzell Sr. was born on December, 8th, 1937 to Lucy Mae (Coffman) and Albert Herman von Rentzell in Oakville, Iowa. Dale attended Earlham Community School. On June 8th , 1957 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Deloros Jean Thompson in Maryville, Missouri. To this union four children were born.
Dale worked in the heavy equipment/mechanic field until his retirement in 2000. In the late 70’s Dale learned to love flying and became a certified small aircraft pilot. He enjoyed taking his family members on frequent day trips that sometimes included his toddler grandson Jason. Dale learned early in life that a good pair of hands were a man’s best tool. He was an avid woodworker and carpenter and spent countless hours in the basement shop making everything from covered bridge crafts to heirloom clocks. He always had some sort of fix-it project in the works and enjoyed tinkering on machines. He was never one to miss a good auction and was always bringing home his new found “treasures”. Dale became a member of the Earlham American Legion Post 158 in 1992 and looked forward to escorting Deloros uptown to Bingo on Saturday nights. Though never an accomplished musician he loved his country music and “fiddling” with all of his various musical instruments. Almost generous to a fault, he was never one to turn down requests of help from friends, family and even strangers. He will be greatly missed by all that have come to know him.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Jean, Joan and Dennett; brother Dennis and his beloved wife of 49 years, Deloros. He is survived by his children; Donna (Jim) Carey of Winterset; Dale Jr., Dan, and Darrell “Butch”(Wanda) von Rentzell, all of Earlham: two grandchildren; James, Jason and wife Jessica, two great grandchildren; Jacob and Josie, three step-grandchildren; Echo, Ira, and Josh, three step-great granddaughters; Jasmine, McKenzie and Lily, brother Dean (Joyce) von Rentzell of Earlham; sister-in-law, Jo von Rentzell of Lincoln, NE; brother-in-law Don W. (Myrtle) Thompson of Greenfield; sisters-in-law, Sue Thompson of Leon, Ginger Thompson of Greenfield, Barb (Al) Farber of Earlham; Aunts Mary Carr and Janet Coffman and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

MILITARY GRAVESIDE RITES
Earlham American Legion Post # 158
God saw you getting weary
And did what He thought best.
He came and stood beside you
And whispered, “Come and rest.”
You bid no one a last farewell
Nor could you ever say good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knew why.
