Betty as she became known, graduated from the Menlo High School in 1952. She met and married Ronald Reed in April of 1952. After having 17 foster children in their home this union was blessed with two children: Jeff and Kathy. Betty was employed over the years with American Republic Insurance Company in Des Moines; Evans Clothing Store in Dexter; and the Dairy Shoppe in Dexter. She worked for the Dexter Casey’s Store for many years, and was considered the best Pizza maker by most of her customers. Betty was into genealogy. She also loved to take pictures. She took pictures of anything and everything. She was great at needlepoint and crocheting. She loved watching birds and spent many hours working in her flower and vegetable garden. In her early years she fed her family with the bounty from her garden. Betty and Ronald were known for taking in needy children. They also helped raise several nieces and nephews. She collected mugs and old classic movies, which she loved to watch with her grandchildren. Betty was very devoted to her grandchildren and especially to the Dexter Presbyterian Church.

THE BEST

God saw her getting tired,
And a cure was not to be.
So He put his arms around her
And whispered, “Come with Me.”
With tearful eyes we watched her
and saw her pass away.
Although we loved her dearly
We could not make her stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard-working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us,
He only takes
The best.
