Martin S. Ramsey, 49, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 18, at Kavanagh House in Des Moines.
Marty was an ordinary man who lived an extraordinary life. He found cause to celebrate in the ordinary and everyday. Born in Maywood, California on September 12, 1959, he loved adventure and was an example of how to make the most of every moment. His passions included hot air ballooning, foxhunting, downhill skiing, the outdoors, the environment, his family and his friends.
Marty graduated from Earlham High School, Class of 1978. He received his Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Iowa State University in 1984 and his doctorate of Juris Prudence from Drake University in 1996. Professionally, he was a microbiologist at University of New Mexico Hospitals, he taught phlebotomy at the Technical-Vocational Institute of Albuquerque, he was an Associate at Peer, Nelson, & Braland Law Office in Earlham, and he served as Madison County Attorney for 10 years. Most recently, he was the proprietor of Tireswing Taxidermy in Earlham.
Marty is survived by his wife of 27 years, Susan and his daughter Madison Ramsey, both of Earlham, and his daughter Collin Barnes and her husband Josh of Adel. Also surviving are his parents Connie and Rod Ramsey, his brother and sister-in-law, Sue and Murray Ramsey, his sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Bruce Rasmussen, all of Earlham. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, other relatives and countless friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Martin Ramsey Memorial at Wildwood Hills Ranch, 3000 St. Charles Road, St. Charles, IA 50240.
