David and Nancy Kuhn were born to farm families in the North Central Iowa community of Charles City. We were high school sweethearts and were married right out of high school. While both attended college, David went on to work in Law Enforcement for 18 years working everything from a foot patrolman, a jail administrator, to the Chief of Police, and teaching classes at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy. Nancy's early years were mostly spent as a homemaker, however she eventually became involved in the accounting business and went on to become the business manager of the Earlham Schools where she works today. She also gets the privilege of working at the funeral home nights and weekends. David would retire from Law Enforcement and after graduating from mortuary college, worked at Hamilton's Funeral Home in Des Moines during his internship and continued until they purchased the Kuhn Funeral Homes of Dexter and Earlham in 1994. The Earlham location was replaced with a new facility in 2001, and the Redfield location was added in March of 2003.

Our funeral homes are a family owned and operated business. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve. We pay special attention to detail and feel that personal attention is a plus at our facilties. We make an effort to greet everyone who enters our facility as well as help them with their coats, as well as to offer them a cup of coffee, a cookie, or whatever else we can do to make their visit more pleasant. Nancy and I give to each family a fresh loaf of homemade bread which we bake ourselves. We also have a single long-stemmed rose sitting at the registration table, which is given to the family on behalf of our staff. David often sings at many of the services, as well as playing taps, and folding the flag for our military services.

Carol Piatt
Directors Assistant
Carol Piatt has been an assistant with the Kuhn Funeral Home for five years. Carol lives next door to the Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter, so she does not have a long commute to work. Carol is a retired employee of the Dallas County Treasures office as part of the auto license registration bureau. Carol drives our funeral coach, works visitations, funerals and assists with many other duties around all of our facilities.
Roanld Algreen
Assitant to the Director
"Ronnie" Algreen as we all know him is a retired Tire Maker at Titan Tire in Des Moines. He also works part time at the Des Moines Country Club in West Des Moines. Ronnie drives limo and coach and works visitations and funerals. He and his wife Sharilynn live in Dexter and have been part of the Dexter, Earlham and Redfield communities all their lives.
 Kathy Woolcott
Office Assistant
Kathy Woolcott is the daughter of Neal and Sherri Hanley, who also help out at the funeral Home from time to time. Kathy and her husband James lives across the street from the Earlham location and helps us in a number of ways. They have three sons: Michael, Stephen and Joshua. She can help a director with making arrangements, creating and printing of folders, prayer cards, writing of obituaries, ordering merchandise, answering phones and just about handling most office situations as well as working visitations and unlocking doors, etc in Earlham as needed. Kathy is instrumental in filling in for us when we want to leave town.
 Neal & Sherry Hanley
Catering Servers
Neal & Sherry Hanley are long time residents of Earlham who have from time to time moved to Minnesota and Arizona, only to return to God's Community, Earlham, Iowa. Neal is a retired computer programer and software instructor. Neal is also an ordained minister and used to help us as a director's assistant. He currently is serving churches in Rural Earlham and Redfield, Iowa. His wife Sherri is a retired Principal Financial Group employee who worked in group policy development. Neal and Sherri now assist us with setting up the funeral home for a luncheon when the family and friends return from the cemetery committal service. When their is no formal catered or a church ladies group, they would set out the catered food items and assist with keeping food items on the table, serving beverages, etc and clean-up after. Being able to have a luncheon at the funeral home has been a success for our funeral home and many families enjoy the handicapp entry and large facility to gather and share food and fellowship with friends and family. Without people like the Hanley's it would not be possible.
 Sharillyn Algreen
Catering server
Sharillyn Algreen is the wife of Ronnie Algreen and lives in Dexter, Iowa. Sharillyn helps us when we need a catering server for a luncheon at the funeral home. Sharillyn is very capable of handling the setting up and serving of catered food for families and friends returning to the funeral home for food and fellowship. Sometimes Ronnie is also working for us the same service so she gets him to help out as well. It is very comforting to know that the Algreens are handling the food service, as it will get done and done right.
