| | | Lyle Russell Ufer was born May 25, 1921 to Paul and Lena (Zeimer ) Ufer on the farm in Lake Fremont Township, near Dunnell, Minnesota. Lyle was baptized into the Christian faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell. He later moved to Fairmont, Minnesota, then to Enderlin, North Dakota for a short time until moving back to Fairmont. He received his education in Fairmont Schools. Lyle confirmed his Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fairmont. The family then moved to Waverly Township. On November 1, 1941, Lyle was united in marriage to Gladys Lucille Drager at Waverly Lutheran Church. They operated the family farm and raised six children there. Lyle remained active in Waverly Church as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, council member, and served on various projects. Lyle greatly enjoyed his family; going to picnics, musical events, grandchildren’s activities and other family gatherings. Lyle loved to go fishing, hunting, music, dancing and would sing to his family or anyone who would listen. He upgraded the layout of the farmstead by remodeling, fixing, repairing buildings and machinery. He was an active 4-H leader, member of Farm Bureau, Sertoma, Toastmasters, and an accomplished square dancer. After building their retirement home in 1981, Lyle was an avid woodworker creating toys tables, and gifts for others. He enjoyed traveling and his true passion was to share his faith and precious trust in Jesus.
Lyle is survived by five children, fifteen grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. Lyle’s children include Ardel Stiles and husband Chuck of Willmar, MN; Karen Lueth and husband Roger, of Park Rapids, MN; Ellen Gieseke and husband Art of Litchfield MN; Mark Ufer and wife Julie of Truman, MN; Jay Ufer and wife Carolyn of Highlands Ranch, Colorado. The fifteen grandchildren include: Charley Stiles, Molly (Tony) Morris, Dale (Colette) Stiles, Anna Stiles, Joylena (Jesse) Lang, Nicole (Matt Benham) Lueth , Eric (Stephanie) Lueth, Tiana(Steven) Schweim, Samuel(April) Gieseke, Robert(Kayla) Gieseke, Christina Ufer, Laura (Ben)Peymann, John Ufer, Alyssa Ufer, Danielle Ufer. The seventeen great grandchildren include: Jacob Morris, Zachary Morris, Emily Morris, Bailey Stiles, Sydney Stiles, Delaney Stiles, Caitlyn Stiles, Olivia Lang, Madison Benham, Rachel Lueth, Heather Lueth, Kole Gieseke, Faith Gieseke, Eli Gieseke, Caleb Schweim, Bryn Schweim and Collin Gieseke. Lyle is also survived by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; Paul and Lena, wife Gladys on March 15, 2005, after 63 years of marriage; son, Robert Ufer; brothers, Roland and Gordon Ufer; sister, Luella Zehms; and other relatives
Interment will be in Waverly Lutheran Cemetery in rural Trimont.
Lyle's family requests in lieu of flowers memorials be given to the Lakeview Campus #610 Summit Drive,Fairmont, Minnesota 56031
