Ardis Irene Hughes was born on April 9, 1916 to Dean and Mary (Erdman) Hughes at their home near Stickney, South Dakota. She attended school in the Stickney area and later in Mitchell, South Dakota.
In 1937, she came to Minnesota to find work. Here she met and married Carl Krueger on September 7, 1941 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. They had one son, Dennis. Carl passed away from cancer in 1954. Ardis and Dennis moved to town from the farm place in 1954. Ardis worked part time as a waitress at Tillies Corner Café in Triumph and then as a bookkeeper for the Cenex Co-op station until 1965 when she married Melvin Hayek on March 25, 1966 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. After their marriage, they farmed in Kimball Township until moving into Trimont in 1983. Melvin passed away from cancer on May 8, 1998.
Ardis enjoyed crosswords, playing cards, putting together puzzles, playing Bingo, flowers, feeding the birds and spending time with her granddaughters. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid for over fifty years.

She is survived by her son, Dennis and his wife Susan of rural Trimont, granddaughter Ginger Barnett and her husband Peter and their daughter, Ardis’s great-granddaughter, Charlotte of Traverse City, Michigan, granddaughter, Kelsey Krueger of rural Trimont, her brother, Bob and his wife Florence Hughes of Stickney, South Dakota, her sister, Betty Lyons of Omaha, Nebraska, sister, Ruby Running and her husband Ron of Hemet, California, and sister-in-law, Shirley Hughes of Cincinnati, Ohio; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters and her two husbands and other relatives.

Interment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Welcome, Minnesota right after the fellowship at Church.
