Vivian Ellen Arlene Hall was born September 21, 1919 to Ernest and Frances (Wallerstadt) Hall on a farm near Dunnell, Minnesota. She attended country school in Petersburg Township and later attended school in Dunnell. Vivian did housework for various families in the Dunnell area. On October 19, 1941, She was united in marriage to Walter Sands at Ernest and Frances Hall’s home in Alpha, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed for two years at Anthon, Iowa. They later moved to Dunnell, Minnesota where they farmed for eleven years. In 1955 they moved to a farm near Butterfield where they farmed until their retirement. Walter died on April 16, 2005. She later moved to Eventide Home in Mountain Lake until moving to Brandt Ridge in St. James. Vivian was a member of Kansas Lake Lutheran Church and its WECA. She greatly enjoyed being with family and friends. Some important things Vivian was noted for was her time quilting especially at church, cooking, rug making, working in her flower garden and growing strawberries.

Vivian died on Monday morning, November 24, 2008, at St. James Medical Center in St. James, Minnesota, at the age of eighty-nine years.
 
She is survived by her four children, son, Curtis (Lois) Sands of rural Butterfield, Minnesota, daughter, Doris (Mark) Miller of Mankato, Minnesota, son, Dennis (Tammy) Sands of rural Butterfield, Minnesota, son, Mark (Lorrie) Sands of Mankato, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jennifer Kathman, Holly Peters, Brittany Sands, Dawn Miller, Cory Sands and Jason Smith; six great-grandchildren, Paige and Parker Kathman, Marshall and Kaley Peters, Haley Miller and Blake Smith; sisters, Ila Jurries of Dunnell, Minnesota, Marilyn (Ray) Bergquist of Buffalo, Minnesota, Norma “Hall” (John) Paulson of Edina, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Leota (Harold) Quiring of rural Mountain Lake, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Herman Bolte of rural Butterfield, Minnesota; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
 
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents,Husband, Walter Sands; son, Roger Sands; granddaughter, Sara Sands; sister, Evelyn Bolte; brother, Arnie and Stanley Hall; brother-in-law, Ervin Jurries; and other relatives.

Interment will be in Kansas Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Butterfield, Minnesota.
