| | | Cecelia E. Smith, 90, of La Porte City, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at her home of natural causes. She was born September 29, 1921 in Monticello the daughter of Hans and Christina Martinsen Mohr. She married Loren Smith in 1941 in Hopkinton, IA.
She received her education in Buck Creek School, Delaware County, graduating in 1940. After her children were grown, she worked for 16 years at St. Francis Hospital, now known as Covenant Medical Center, retiring in 1984.
Survived by: her husband, Loren of La Porte City; three sons, Philip (Brenda) of La Porte City, Lawrence of Waterloo; Douglas of La Porte City; one daughter, Sharon Myers of Mt. Auburn; six grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; one brother, Bob (Dolores) Mohr of Hopkinton and one sister, Betty DeShaw of Hopkinton.
Preceded in death by: her parents; two brothers; one sister; a son-in-law, Ron Myers; a daughter-in-law, Vella Smith and one great-great granddaughter.
Services: will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2012 at the American Lutheran Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at La Porte City Funeral Service and also one hour before the service at the church.
Memorials: may be directed to the family.
