| | | Margaret E. “Peg” Hager, age 85, of La Porte City, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her home.
Peg was born August 19, 1925 on the family farm near Lawler, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Marietta (Hand) Fisher. Peg graduated from Osage High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for a time. She met John Anton Hager at Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo and they were united in marriage on December 4, 1949 at her sister’s home in Osage. John preceded her in death on August 13, 1991.
Peg and John farmed near La Porte City from 1949 until 1982, when they built a home and moved into town. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Waterloo Elk’s Club, and the La Porte City Country Club, where she served as president of the women’s auxiliary for many years. Peg enjoyed playing bridge and 500 with her friends and working newspaper crossword puzzles. Peg loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include a daughter, Deborah (Steven) Wells of Marion, IA; three sons, John D. (Jean) Hager, Steven M. (Teresa) Hager and William J. (Jackie) Hager, all of La Porte City; ten grandchildren, Brian (Kelie) Bemisdarfer, Scott (Dorothy) Bemisdarfer, Robert Wells, Amanda (Shane) Olsen, John C. (Marci) Hager, Christopher Hager, Mark Hager, William S. Hager, Ashley Hager, Taylor (Brittany) Buss and Aaron (Kelly) Buss; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a great grandson, Brendhen Olsen; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with private family burial in West View Cemetery. Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 501 Sycamore Street, La Porte City. The casket will be closed at all times. La Porte City Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
