| | | Marie A. Oden, age 81, of Waterloo, IA, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo.
She was born July 11, 1929 in Waterloo, the daughter of Theodore and Gussie (Green) Griggs. She was united in marriage with Louis Creighton in September of 1946 in Waterloo. He preceded her in death. She later married Henry Oden in November 1960 in Waterloo and he preceded her in death in 1971.
Mrs. Oden worked as a receptionist at the Boys and Girls Club in Waterloo for 10 years. She was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Waterloo.
Survivors include a daughter, Lawanna Creighton of Waterloo; three sons, Louis Creighton, Jr. of Colby, KS, Hamp Batemon III of Phoenix, AZ and Theodore Batemon of Lombard, IL; nine grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Marsh of Burlington, IA and a brother, Leo L. Griggs of Cedar Rapids, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands, a son, Howard L. Creighton in infancy; three sisters, Glendora Griggs, Quinzola Bryant and Leora Roberts and three brothers, Theodore Griggs, Jr., Charles Griggs and Donald Johnson and her long time companion, Howard C. Sanders.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 710 Broadway Street, Waterloo with burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
