| | | Alford K. Piercy, age 78, of Evansdale, died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at
St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was born April 15, 1931 in West Plains, Missouri, the son of Joseph R. and Ada M. (Wollan) Piercy. Alford was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage with Betty Lou Francis on
September 7, 1956 in Rover, Missouri. She preceded him in death on June 16,2005.
Mr. Piercy worked as a clerk for the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for 38 ½ years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.
Survivors include a stepson, Raymond L. Dumire of Evansdale; one granddaughter; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Fricks of Hever
Springs, Arkansas and Martha Piercy of Ottawa, Illinois; five nieces and five nephews; two sisters-in-law, Judy Medd of Waterloo and Martha Sebetka of Tama and a brother-in-law Donald Francis of Raymond.
Alford was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lou; two brothers, Thomas "Buster" and Paul Piercy and a sister, Mary McCalister.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009 at Garden View Chapel Funeral Home in Waterloo. Inurnment will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors by Becker-Chapman American Legion Post #138 and VFW Post 1623. Friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Funeral Chapel.
