| | | Mary E. Glessner, 88, of Waterloo, died at her home Sunday, March 29, due to complications of a stroke.
She was born January 29, 1921 in rural Black Hawk County, the daughter of John L. and Beatrice Cooper Kerr. Mary graduated from Orange Township High School in 1939 and then attended ISTC for 1 year.
She married Roland Mitchell on October 18, 1941 in Tama County and they were later divorced. She then married Curt Glessner on October 8, 1974 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.
Mary worked at New York Fashion and then with her husband in the Glessner Jewelry Store. She also helped her husband with community meals and the Lions Book Club Sale.
She is survived by her husband; on stepson, Rod (Susan) Glessner of Waterloo; two daughters, Sharon (Pete) Wetrich of Waterloo and Cynthia (Paul) Wendt of Yuma, AZ; three sisters, Marjorie Ibbotson of Tingley, Harriet (Larry) Garlock of Waterloo and Trudy Grimes of Grundy Center; four grandchildren, Todd (Beth Krakau) Taylor of Johnston, Wendy (Dave) Barnes of Traer, Jennifer (Bob) Cak of Spanish Fort, AL and Sherry (Greg) Lyons of Dysart; seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Beatrice Fosse.
Services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 3, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball with burial in the Geneseo Cemetery in Geneseo. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 P.M. Thursday and an hour before services Friday.
Those who wish may direct memorials to the Cedar Valley Hospice or the Geneseo United Methodist Church.
