| | | Barry Eugene Stamper was born in Des Moines, Iowa on August 5, 1947 and was soon placed in the Annie Wittenmeyer Home in Davenport, Iowa. Barry grew up in Glenwood, Iowa, moving to the State Hospital School on November 3, 1950. He was a great kid, kind hearted and enjoyed drawing and writing.
In 1968, Barry moved to Burlington, Iowa where he worked in different work centers. He lived in several Iowa communities before being permanently placed at the Glenwood Resource Center on January 30, 1998. Barry loved music and was a great dancer. He always had pen and paper. He enjoyed reading magazines and was meticulous about copying the magazine text into his own notebooks. Barry liked interacting with all the staff and especially enjoyed spending time with his guardian, Jessica Burdic and her family.
Barry died at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on November 2, 2009, at the age of 62 years, 2 months, and 25 days. He is survived by his guardian Jessica Burdic and husband Jay of Malvern; his many friends and staff at the Glenwood Resource Center.
