| | | Roberta Edith Green, one of five daughters of Robert Milton Ranne and Mary Permelia (Bushnell) Ranne, was born September 5, 1919 at Tacoma, Washington. The family moved to Malvern, Iowa, where Roberta, affectionately known as “Bobbe”, graduated from high school in 1937. She then attended the Council Bluffs Beauty Academy, graduating in 1938 with a degree in cosmetology. She continued at the Academy as an instructor until 1943.
Bobbe and Robert James Green were married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs on April 11, 1942. They made their home in Council Bluffs. In 1943, Bobbe moved to North Carolina to be with Bob while he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps. When her husband was sent overseas to India, Bobbe returned to Council Bluffs and again worked as a beautician. Following the service, Bob returned home, and in 1946, their first son, Michael Douglas Green, was born.
In 1948, the Greens were able to purchase a farm near Macedonia, Iowa where Bobbe enjoyed being a farm wife and working with Bob. In 1952, their marriage was again blessed with a son, Robert “Kevan” Green. Bobbe was a faithful member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She served her community as Cub Scout Den Mother, as past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, and member of the Iowa Farm Bureau. She received numerous awards and trophies as a beautician and was recognized by the Macedonia United Methodist Church for 50 years of continuous membership. Bobbe enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, watching sports on TV, and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bobbe and Bob had been married 32 years at the time of Bob’s death on February 7, 1975.
