| | | Sarah Elizabeth Aistrope, the only child of Richard Graham Ruse and Charlotte Mabel Faye (Shere) Ruse, was born October 1, 1921 on a farm in rural Randolph, Iowa. The family moved to another farm in rural Malvern when Sarah was three. She attended Pleasant Valley School through the 7th grade. The family sold the farm and moved into Malvern where Sarah graduated from high school in 1939. She then attended Van Sant Business School in Omaha, Nebraska.
On June 29, 1942, Sarah and Lt. Donald Leland Aistrope were united in marriage in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. The marriage was blessed with their son, Donald Junior in 1943.
Don, Sr. had made a career in the U.S. Air Force, so the family traveled and made their home in various places. Don retired from the Air Force in 1962 and the family moved to Malvern where Don worked for the U.S. Postal Service.
Sarah taught piano during high school and for 14 years after returning to Malvern. She was a member of the Malvern First Baptist Church where she played the piano. She served on the Malvern Library Board for ten years and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Don and Sarah had been married 52 years when Don died on October 21, 1994. Sarah continued to live in her home in Malvern She enjoyed being a mother, homemaker, was a fabulous cook, and loved living close to Don Jr.
Sarah died at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Saturday, April 14, 2007 at the age of 85 years, 6 months, and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Donald L. Aistrope, Sr.
Sarah is survived by her son Don Aistrope, Jr. of Malvern, IA and granddaughter Julie Wootton and husband Mike of San Diego, CA; and sister-in-law Carolyn Hatten of Lincoln, NE; nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many friends
Memorials suggested to the Malvern First Baptist Church or Malvern Volunteer Rescue.
