Cary Vance Allensworth, one of eight children of Minnie Mae (Gravett) and Arthur Allensworth, was born at his parent’s home in Henderson, Iowa on March 4, 1939. Vance grew up in Henderson where he graduated from the Henderson Community High School in 1957. Following school, Vance attended refrigeration trade school in Omaha, Nebraska and later operated his own plumbing company.
On February 12, 1960, Vance and Dianna Lea Kesselring were married at the Zion Christian Church in Treynor, Iowa. They made their home in Macedonia, Iowa and were blessed with four children; Carla, Cheryl, Cary, and Chris. Vance worked on the farm and then for the Eaton Company in Shenandoah, Iowa where he retired in 1998 after 28 years of service.
Vance loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and racing of any kind. On October 22, 2006, Vance died suddenly at the Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa at the age of 67 years, 7 months, and 18 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant sister Peggy and infant brother Berle.
Vance is survived by his daughters Carla Barber and husband Dave of Oakland, IA and Cheryl Miller and husband Lance of Yuba City, CA; sons Cary Allensworth of Hancock, IA and Chris Allensworth and wife Rachel of Oakland, IA; sisters Betty Raney and husband Charles of Buena Vista, AR, Norma Winchester and husband Norman of Carroll, IA, and Donna Loth and husband Leroy of Omaha, NE; brothers Douglas Allensworth and wife Carol of Red Oak, IA, and Craig Allensworth and wife Linda of Carson, IA; nine grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
