| | | Christine Allene (Buckelew) Barrett, one of two children of Edward “Ned” Pinkard Buckelew and Janet Alma (Tiarks) Buckelew, was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on July 23, 1955. Cris grew up in Treynor, Iowa where she graduated from the Treynor Community High School in 1973. Following school, Cris attended Iowa State University in Ames.
On November 24, 1984, Cris and Gary Dwayne Barrett were married at the Zion Congregational Church in Treynor. They made their home in Treynor and were blessed with their daughter Allison. Cris worked in Omaha, Nebraska for ten years at Lund-Ross in their accounts receivable department. She was a lifelong and active member of the Zion Congregational Church and the Pricilla Circle. In 1994, she opened Oceans of Notions, a flower and gift shop on Highway 92 in Treynor.
In 2004, following a cancer diagnosis, Cris closed her store so she could focus on her health and family. Cris and Gary had been married 22 years when Cris died at the Alegent Health Bergan Mercy Medical Center in Omaha, NE on September 14, 2006 at the age of 51 years, 1 month, and 22 days. She was preceded in death by her father, Ned Buckelew.
Cris is survived by her husband Gary Barrett; daughter Allison; mother Janet Goos and her husband Emmett; brother Dan Buckelew and his wife Julie and their children Michael and Ryan; step-sister Jane Duysen, her husband Joe, and their children Sarah and Tommy all of Treynor; step-brother Eric Goos of Shelby, NE; other relatives and many friends.
