  VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES

Ernest Henry Blatny, one of seven children of Frank Blatny and Rose (Majeka) Blatny, was born March 27, 1919 near Weston, Nebraska. Ernest attended rural school near his home and high school at Morse Bluff, Nebraska. Following high school, Ernest began work as a farm hand to help support his family.
Ernest and Irene Sharon Kavan of Morse Bluff were married November 3, 1943 at St. Charles Catholic Church at North Bend, Nebraska. During the first twelve years of their marriage, Ernest and Irene operated a farm near Colon, Nebraska. While living near Colon, their six children, Sharon, Eileen, Ernest, Jr. who died at birth, Robert, Diane, and David were born. In 1956, the family moved to a farm near Henderson, Iowa and in 1960, Ernest and Irene purchased and moved to their present farm and home southwest of Macedonia, Iowa.
Ernest treasured time with his family and truly enjoyed farming and farm life. As recently as May of this year, Ernest used a ladder to climb into the cab of his tractor and replanted a field of sweet corn. Ernest and Irene were great polka dancers and traveled to Germany and Hawaii and throughout the United States with their polka club.
On June 7, 2006, Ernest suffered a hip fracture as the result of a fall at their home. He suffered a heart attack following hip surgery and entered the care of AseraCare Hospice. Ernest died at Oakland Manor in Oakland, Iowa on June 16, 2006 at the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 19 days.
Ernest was preceded in death by his infant son Ernest, Jr.; parents Frank and Rose Blatny; granddaughter Debbie Husz Reed Swingle; brothers Joe Blatny, Frank Blatny, and Ted Blatny; and sister Josephine Belick.
Ernest is survived by his wife Irene of 62 years; children Sharon Husz and husband Curtis of Carson, Iowa, Eileen Vendetti of De Funiak Springs, Florida, Robert Blatny and wife Donna of Carson, Diane Adams and husband Terry of Red Oak, Iowa, David Blatny and wife Deb of Carson; sister Rose Nesladak of North Bend, Nebraska; brother Bernard Blatny and wife Leona of Macedonia, Iowa; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
