VIEW/SEND CONDOLENCES
| | | Dorothy Arlene Anderson, daughter of Arlene (Werner) and Russell Hollis Perrin, was born in Creston, Iowa on November 25, 1939. Dorothy grew up in Brooks, Iowa where she attended school through the eighth grade. Dorothy graduated from the Corning High School in 1957 and then moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she worked as a nanny while attending the Omaha Business School. While in Omaha, she met Daniel Micheal Anderson who was stationed at the Offutt Air Force Base in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Dorothy and Daniel were married on January 30, 1960 in the Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa. Their first home was in Garden Grove, California where Daniel worked at the Garden Grove Post Office. After leaving the post office, Dorothy and Daniel traveled throughout several states as Dan was moved to work on different Atlas Missile bases for Convair Astronautics. They later returned to Iowa and lived in Corning, Massena, Orient, Prescott, and Cumberland where Dan returned to the post office in Atlantic and finally to Glenwood in 1980, where Dan worked at the post office until his retirement in 2000.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. The Anderson home became a favorite among the neighborhood children; a place where Dorothy always had cookies and Kool-Aid ready. Dorothy served as a Den Mother while the boys were in Scouts, and enjoyed singing, playing the piano, bowling, and was known to her family as a pool shark, but her greatest joy was taking her boys cat fishing. She worked part time for many years as a secretary at Lyman Poultry in the 70’s. She later enjoyed gardening and flowers and grew from seed; peach, orange, and lemon trees. She loved to watch the birds and enjoyed rock hunting. Friends would often call on her skills with the metal detector to help find lost treasures.
Dorothy and Daniel had been married 45 years when Dorothy died January 13, 2006 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska. She had attained the age of 66 years, 1 month, and 18 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother Robert Perrin; and brothers-in-law David Anderson and Gary Erickson; and sister-in-law Mary Anderson.
Dorothy is survived by her husband Daniel; four sons, Danny “Rocky” Anderson and his wife Shari of Griswold, Iowa, Rodney Anderson of Massena, Iowa, Tracey Anderson and his wife Kathy and Kelley Anderson and his friend Kelli Wallace, all of Glenwood; four grandchildren, Ashley Anderson and her fiancé Brandon Templeton of Corning, Heath Anderson of Griswold, and Zach Anderson and Alexa Anderson both of Glenwood; a brother; sister Donna Ortgies and her husband Ed of Atlantic, Iowa; brother-in-law Darwin Anderson and his wife Pat of Greenfield, Iowa; sisters-in-law Deloy Cannon of Greenfield and Delaine Erickson of Cumberland, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
