| Wilbur Glen Ballinger, one of eleven children of Harvey Allen and Daisy Ethel (Carnes) Ballinger, was born June 11, 1914 at Randolph, IA. Glen attended country school at Randolph and following school worked as a farmhand. During World War II, Glen served in the US Army as a rifle sharpshooter in Italy. Following the service, Glen worked at the Union Pacific Railroad shop as a train car repairman. In 1937, Glen and Mable Marquarete Earith were married in Nebraska City, NE. Glen and Marquarete made their home in Sidney, IA and the marriage was blessed with four children, Wava, Bill, Janet, and Ronald Glen and Marquarete’s sons,Donald and Gerald Needs. Glen and Marquarete had been married nine years when Marquarete died in 1946. Following her death, Glen moved to Malvern, IA.
Glen and Barbara Jean (Schramm) Gustin of Malvern were married at the United Methodist Church in Malvern on February 21, 1971. They made their home in Malvern, and in 1979, Glen retired from the railroad. Glen’s enjoyments included leatherwork, fishing and hunting, nature, and lawn care. On July 12, 2002, Glen moved to the Manor of Malvern Nursing Home and later to Red Oak Rehabilitation and Care Center in Red Oak, Iowa. Glen and Barbara had been married for 33 years when Glen died at Red Oak Rehabilitation Center on December 8, 2004. Glen had attained the age of 90 years, 5 months, and 27 days. Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Marquarete, brothers Cecil Ballinger, Howard Ballinger, Harvey Ballinger, Harold Ballinger, and Clayton Ballinger; sisters Nellie Evans, Ollie Walkins, and Olla Mae Lee; infant step-daughter Linda Jean Gustin; and step-son Edward Lee Gustin. Glen is survived by his wife Barbara Ballinger of Malvern; children Wava Fitzwater and her husband Don of Bakersfield, CA, Ronald Ballinger Sr. and his wife Barbara of Red Oak, IA, Janet Reisner of Dows, IA, and Bill Parson of Spokane, WA; step-daughters Carolann ValVerde of Bellevue, NE and Nancy Muvillo of Omaha, NE; step-sons Clifford “Junior” W. Gustin of Council Bluffs, IA, Barry Gustin of Glenwood, IA, and Jerry Gustin of Omaha; sister Daisy Hill of Nebraska City; brother Leighton Ballinger of Blair, NE; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. | ||
