| Dorothy Marie Alberts, one of ten children of Dora (Clayton) and Robert Elonzo Cogley, was born at her parent’s home west of Glenwood, Iowa on June 13, 1915. Dorothy grew up in Glenwood and graduated from the Glenwood Community High School in 1935. Following school, Dorothy worked with her family at the Cogley Ice House and on the farm.
Dorothy and Lawrence Ranne “Bill” Alberts of Malvern, Iowa were married on March 5, 1944 at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Glenwood. They made their home on the Albert’s family farm along with Bill’s mother, Ida, and sisters, Marjorie and Ferne. In May of 2004, Dorothy and Bill moved from the farm to the Linnwood Estates Assisted Living Center in Glenwood. Dorothy and Bill had been married 61 years when Bill passed away on December 25, 2005. Dorothy continued to live at Linnwood until moving to the Glen Haven Home in 2007. Dorothy passed away at the Home on January 23, 2009, at the age of 93 years, 7 months, and 10 days. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill Alberts; brothers, Walter Cogley and his wife Lillian, Ernest Cogley and his wife Viola, Glen Cogley, Wesley Cogley, John Cogley, Roy Cogley, Jess Cogley and his wife Twila, and Frank Cogley; sister Ruth Cogley; nephew Dwayne Cogley and great nephew Douglas Cogley. Dorothy is survived by her niece, Debra Lincoln, of Glenwood; great nephews Dustin Lincoln and wife Nikki of Shawnee, KS, and Jared Lincoln of Glenwood; great nieces Jessica Lincoln of Glenwood, and Barbara Stoll and her daughter, Rachel of Santa Clarita, CA. A memorial fund has been established. Interment in the Malvern Cemetery. | ||
