| | | Mary Imogene Anthony, one of six children of James Lewis and Ada (Wheatley) Clowers, was born on October 31, 1913 in Shenandoah, Iowa. Fondly known as Imogene, she grew up in the Waubonsie, Glenwood, and Tabor areas and attended school through the 8th grade in Tabor, Iowa.
Imogene was united in marriage to Wayne William Anthony on November 12, 1935 in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Yvonne Elaine. Wayne was a farmer and electrician in the Glenwood area, and Imogene worked as a child care specialist and foster grandparent at the Glenwood State School until her retirement in 1980.
Imogene was a member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood, Iowa. She took pride in her flower and vegetable gardens and enjoyed her cats. Imogene played canasta often with her card club lady friends.
Imogene and Wayne had been married 54 years at the time of his death in 1989. She moved to Columbia, Tennessee in 1997 and entered the nursing home in March of 2001.
Imogene passed away on July 11, 2008 at Signature Healthcare in Columbia, attaining the age of 94 years, 8 months and 11 days.
Imogene was preceded in death by her husband Wayne; children, LeRoy Wayne Anthony, John Louis Anthony, Shirley Ann Anthony, all in infancy, and Robert Dean Anthony, at age 11; and brothers, Ronald Clowers, Robert Clowers and Roy Clowers and his wife Opal.
Imogene is survived by her daughter Yvonne Pulfrey of Columbia, TN; granddaughters, Cherre Nielsen and husband Dan of Columbia, TN and Terresa Schlosser and husband Scott of Edwards, CO; great grandchildren Theodore Wayne Nielsen and Elizabeth Marjorie Nielsen of Columbia, TN; sisters, Juanita Lawder of Webster Groves, MO and Birdella Marderosian and husband Mark of Beaver Creek, OH; nieces and nephews; other relatives and her many friends and caregivers at Signature Healthcare of Columbia, TN.
Graveside services with family and friends were held at the Glenwood Cemetery on Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 11:00 A.M.
A memorial fund has been established.
