| Lawrence Omer Adair, one of seven children of Harold Albert and Laura Grace (Edie) Adair, was born on December 14, 1932 in Strahan, Iowa. “Tony” grew up in Strahan where he attended high school. He entered the U.S. Army on February 14, 1952 and served in the Korean Conflict, earning the Korean Service Ribbon, the Bronze Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and Purple Heart. Following his discharge from the military service in February of 1954, Tony moved to Malvern, Iowa where he drove a truck for Waller Transfer.
Tony and Verla Mae Chambers were married on August 24, 1956 in Glenwood, Iowa. They made their home in Malvern and the marriage was blessed with four children, Lou Ann, Terry, Cheryl and Rex. During these years, Tony worked for Standard Chemical in Malvern until it closed in 1984. Beginning in 1985, he worked several years driving a truck for Wynn Transport and then worked until his retirement in 2000 as a shuttle driver at Bluffs Run Casino in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Throughout their 46 years of marriage, Tony and Verla enjoyed camping and fishing, and their trips to Las Vegas. Tony loved playing his guitar and singing. Tony died at the Manor of Malvern on June 4, 2003 at the age of 70 years, five months, and 20 days. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Adair. Tony is survived by his wife Verla Adair of Malvern; sons Terry Adair and wife Karen of Glenwood, Iowa and Rex Adair and wife Kim of Rippey, Iowa; daughters Lou Ann Squier and husband Ken, and Cheryl Penry and husband Dennis all of Malvern; mother Laura Grace Adair of Silver City, Iowa; brother Harold Adair and wife Jan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sisters Elsie Hoffman, Phyllis Boyer and husband Jim of Silver City, Joan Mayne of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Elizabeth Barnes and husband Bill of Silver City, and Sharon Hurst and her husband Charle of Sevierville, Tennessee; grandchildren Kristen and Johnathon Penry of Malvern, Amy and Amanda Adair of Glenwood, and Amber Adair of Rippey; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. | ||
