Jane Ellen Benson, the daughter of Harry and Mabel (Wiley) Benson, was born March 23, 1936, in Estherville, Iowa. She passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville at the age of 73.

Jane Ellen was raised in Ringsted and received her education there graduating from Ringsted High School in 1954. Later she furthered her education by attending Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri. She graduated there with a degree in retailing.

After her graduation from college, Jane Ellen went to work for a millinery company in Chicago, Illinois, and was employed by them at several retail stores including, Younkers, Wolfe's Department Store, Miller and Paine in the Des Moines area and then Marshall Field's in Michigan. In 1977, Jane Ellen was united in marriage to Alton Datter Benson in Jackson, Michigan. She was employed by the Des Moines Register for 15 years. In 1982, she returned to Armstrong to make her home, retiring in 2000. In her leisure time she enjoyed antiques, sewing, especially making quilts, she loved playing the saxaphone and a favorite pass time in her life was spoiling her pet cat, Pickie Ann.

She attended the Presbyterian Church in Armstong; and was a member of the PEO.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Aaron Benson Dalbey and his special friend, Rose Colene of Estherville; her sister, Maribell Lou Cooke of rural Wallingford, Iowa; and cousins, Larry Hansen and Wiley Hansen both of Ringsted.

Preceding Jane Ellen in death were her husbands and her parents.
