Mr. Ralph R. Horning

Special Services:
Funeral services were held on Wednesday July 1, 2009 at the Hanlin Funeral Home. Ralph was laid to rest at the Millington Twp. Cemetery. Pastor James Bruner (of St. Paul Lutheran Church) delivered the funeral message and the closing prayers at the cemetery.

Ralph passed from our world into God's Kingdom early Saturday morning June 27, 2009 while at the Homewood Village in Flint Twp. Ralph was 87.

Ralph R. Horning was born the son of Cillford & Leola (Frost) Hornung on November 6, 1921 in Topeka Kansas. On July 8, 1944 Ralph married Miss Lorette Laycock, and he and Lorette celebrated 58 years before she passed into God's Kingdom in 2002. Ralph was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of which he served as the schools first PTL President. He retired from the Buick Motor Divison of General Motors in 1978 after 35 years of service. As a young man during WW-II he served at home in the unit known as the CCC's in Washington State. While in the CCC's he served on the Forest Fire Crew. Ralph also served the state of Michigan in the Michigan Troops known today as the Michigan National Guard. Ralph leaves to cherish his memory his children, son & daughter in-law Rick & Imelda Horning, two daughters and a son in-law, Dee & Jerry Baker, Kay Horning.He also leaves two daughters in-law Rosie Horning and Betty Chambal, ten grandchildren,and 22 great grandchildren. One brother Lee Horning, and several nieces, nephews, extended family and freinds. Besides his wife Ralph is also preceeded in death by two sons Gary Horning and Ken Chambal and a great-grandson Kyle R. Horning. Gifts of Remembrance can be directed to the St. Paul Lutheran Church. Hanlin Funeral Home has been assisting the family with the arrangements.
