| | | Agnes McVey of Elkview passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010, at the Hubbard Hospice House following an extended illness.
Agnes was born on July 18, 1923, in Skye Glen, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, the fifth child of the late John Angus and Janet MacInnis.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers,Alister, Ninian, and Peter MacInnis, one sister, Florence MacLean, and a son-in-law, Daniel Fisher.
Agnes was retired from the United States Postal Service where she was postmaster at Blue Creek, WV.She was an active member of Elkview Baptist Church for almost 50 years.Agnes was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother,who was known for her strong faith in God,her excellent cooking,and her love for her native Cape Breton Island.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 63 years, Richard A. McVey of Elkview; daughter Beverly Fisher of Malden;sons George (Elaine) McVey of Berkeley Springs and Greg (Lana) McVey of St. Albans; brothers, Beaton (Laura) MacInnis of London, Ontario, George (Evelyn) MacInnis, of Garson,Ontario, Isaac (Ann) MacInnis and Donald (Anna) MacInnis of Skye Glen,Nova Scotia; sisters Grace MacLean of Toronto, Ontario and Margaret MacInnis of Margaree Harbour, Nova Scotia; grandchildren Rev. Brian (Karen) McVey of Davenport, Iowa, Ann Marie (David) Jenkins of Barboursville, Alan (Miriam)Fisher of Charlton Heights, Sandy (Lou) Carrico of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Janet (Jason) Johnson of Bowie, Maryland, Alex and Annie McVeyof Saint Albans,
15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 10, 2010, at 11:00 am, at Elkview Baptist Church with the Rev. David Keeney, Rev. Bobby Sizemore, and Rev. Brian McVey officiating. Burial will be in Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 9, 2010, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Elkview Baptist Church,Elkview, WV.
The family would like to thank the employees of Hubbard Hospice House for their kindness and compassion during the last days of our dear wife, mother,and grandmother, and suggest donations to the Hubbard Hospice House or Elkview Baptist Church in lieu of flowers.
