CHESAPEAKE - Wallace Disway "Dusty" Rhodes, 85 of the 1200 block of Drayton Rd., passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, 2009 at home with his loving family by his side. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Granddaddy Rhodes." He was born July 31, 1924 in Columbia, NC and was the son of the late Nelson P. and Minnie Etheridge Rhodes. He was the widower of Lillian Marie Rhodes and was also predeceased by five brothers and five sisters. Mr. Rhodes was a chief electrician having retired from Continental Grain after more than 34 years of service. He was a member of local # 337 Union of Operating Engineers and served in the United States Merchant Marines.

Those left to cherish the many happy family memories are his daughter, Dianne Rollins and husband, George; three sons, James T. "Tommy" Rhodes, Joseph D. "Joe" Rhodes and wife, Joyce, and Ricky J. Rhodes, all of Chesapeake; six grandchildren, George Rollins, Jr. and wife, Donna, Amy Jernigan and husband, Wade, Jason Rollins, Katherine Rollins, April R. Shirley and husband, Nathan, and Holly Rhodes; seven great grandchildren, Amanda Collins, Wade Jernigan III, Brittany Jernigan, Jordan Jernigan Hannah Rollins, Jamas Estes, Jr. and Savannah Jernigan; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, in the Graham Funeral Home Greenbrier Chapel. The Rev. Shannon Joyner, associate pastor of Faith Alive Church, will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Heartland Hospice Care for the personal and compassionate care offered to Mr. Rhodes during this difficult time.
