CHESAPEAKE – Ernest E. Sawyer, Sr., 90, of the 1100 block of Anne Avenue, passed away October 1, 2009 in Chesapeake. A native of Norfolk, he was the son of the late Issac M. and Lillie Evans Sawyer and the husband of the late Martha Frances Sawyer. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army, and the National Guard 29th Division. He was a member of the Grassfield Ruritan Club, and the American Legion and was a retired mechanic with Greyhound Bus Lines with 43 years of service.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Frances Kolesaric of Virginia Beach; a son, Ernest E. Sawyer, Jr.; six grandchildren, Sharon Lineberry, Edward Kolesaric, Ashley Sawyer, Ernest E. Sawyer, III, Zachary Sawyer and Caylin Sawyer; one great-granddaughter, Heidi Kolesaric; two brothers, John I. Sawyer and Raymond Sawyer; and a sister, Meriam King. Mr. Sawyer loved his family dearly and they will cherish his memory.

A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk.
