The FTC Funeral Rule requires funeral service providers to tell consumers that they have a right to select only the items they want to buy, except for a non-declinable basic services fee. They should place this statement immediately above the prices of the goods and services they offer. The statement should read as follows:
The third sentence, noted in boldface above, must be included if customers cannot decline the basic services fee. The funeral service provider may add the phrase "and overhead" after the word "services," as shown above, if the fee includes the recovery of overhead costs.
