O. Earle O'Shields, 94, was ushered into the presence of his Lord, family, and friends on Sunday, October 18, 2009. Born August 28, 1915, in Pauline, SC, he was the son of the late Wallace M. and Myrtle Adair O'Shields and the husband of his beloved late wife, Thelma Smith O'Shields. Mr. O'Shields made his home at 2246 Blackstock Road in Pauline for the majority of his life and spent his last 15 months at Park Place Assisted Living in Spartanburg and Ashlan Village in Lyman. A retired tool engineer with Draper Corporation, he also enjoyed farming as a hobby and was a U. S. Navy Veteran. He was a faithful member, deacon, and Sunday School teacher at Friendship Baptist Church in Pauline.

Survivors include his son, David M. O'Shields and wife Sherry of Greer; three grandsons, J. Scott O'Shields and wife Corinne of Taylors, Marcus J. O'Shields and wife Amy of Greer, and Neal C. O'Shields and wife Paige of Simpsonville; two great-grandsons, Tyler J. O'Shields of Greer, and Henry D. O'Shields of Simpsonville; a brother, Donald O'Shields of Stone Station; and two sisters, Alice Parker of Spartanburg, and Hester Farmer of Pauline. He was predeceased by four brothers, Lester, Herbert, Lloyd, and Wiley.

Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Friendship Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the Church conducted by the Rev. Jimmy Farmer and the Rev. Jack D. Weaver. Burial will be in the Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 830 Friendship Road, Pauline, SC 29374.
