Albert G. Slife, age 90, of Oshkosh, passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012. He was born in New London, Wisconsin on January 21, 1922 a son of the late Reinhold and Ellla Slife. Upon moving to Oshkosh with his parents, he attended Oshkosh High School and entered the US Army in 1942 to 1945 and held the rank of Technical Sargent. During Albert's enlistment he married his sweetheart, Elizabeth (Betty) Waters, on January 21, 1943. The couple resided in Oshkosh and lived for over fifty years on Lake Buttes des Mortes. Al was employed by Rockwell Standard and retired from the same. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, archery, camping and loved his motorcycle. He was an accomplished musician and played with the Henry Slife Orchestra for over 50 years. The highlight of his life occurred when he earned his pilots license and was able to enjoy the beauty of flying on his own. Al was a current member of the EAA having joined in 1974. He recently was priviledged to attend the Old Glory Flight to Washington, D.C. and was honored as a Soldier in the US Army. Al and Betty enjoyed over twenty years of wintering in Sebring, Florida together.
His memory will be cherished by his wife, Betty of over sixty-nine years; a son, Michael (Diana) and their children, Krista, Michael Jr. (Shari), John (Kristi), Stephen (Amanda); a son, James (Jennifer) and their children, Amy, (Eric), Ashley, Anthony, Kristine; eight great-grandchildren also survive. He is further survived by sister-in-laws, Jane Waters, Patricia (Pat) Ebersberger and Victoria Slife and a niece, Deanna (Richard) Bradley; other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by brothers, Henry and Lawrence Slife; a granddauhter, Judy Elizabeth Slife.
A Mass of Chrisitan Burial will be celebrated for Albert on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Most Blessed Sacrament Parish, St. Peter Catholic Church, 435 High Avenue in Oshksoh. The Rev. Fr. James Jugenheimer as celebrant. A time of visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. A memorial fund will be established.
