MARGARET “MA” ELIZABETH BARRY, 82, of 174 Eleanor Road, Pittsfield, died Monday night at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield, March 30, 1922, a daughter of David J. and Jennifer Freihoffer Tierney, she was a graduate of Pittsfield High School. Continuing her education, she earned a bachelor of arts degree from Our Lady of the Elm College and a masters degree from the former North Adams State College now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. A teacher by profession, Mrs.Barry taught math and chemistry at Taconic High
School for twenty years. Her career also included two years at the former Pomeroy School, four years at Pittsfield High School, and also eight years at St Joseph Central High School. She retired in 1994.During World War II, she was employed as an engineer with General Electric
Company.Mrs. Barry was a communicant of St. Mark Church. She enjoyed reading, especially The Reader’s Digest, to which she was a 50-year subscriber. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas D. Barry, whom she married in l946, died in l990.Mrs. Barry is survived by four sons, Thomas P. Barry of Templeton, California,
William M. Barry of Pittsfield, Stephen D. Barry of Pittsfield, and John J. Barry of
Pittsfield, a daughter, Maryjane Johnson of Ashfield, Massachusetts; two brothers,
David J. Tierney, II., and William Tierney both of Pittsfield; four sisters, Grace Jones of the State of Florida, Pat Campbell of Morrisotown, Illinois, Connie Coughlin of New Hampshire, and Rosemary Brennan of Marblehead, Massachusetts, ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. Her other daughter, Ann E. Barry, died in l979.

FUNERAL NOTICE:Funeral services for MARGARET ‘MA’ ELIZABETH BARRY will be held Friday, March 4, at 9:l5 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., at St. Mark Church celebrated by Rev. John C. Salatino, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs.
Barry may be made to Taconic High School to establish a math and science award in
Care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford Street, Pittsfield. Mrs. Barry also leaves her son-in-law, Steve Johnson, and her daughters-in-law,
Marlee Champoux Barry, and Janice Farrell Barry.
