On Friday, October 2, 2009, Dennis Nelson of Woodside, California passed away at his home. Beloved husband of 57 years to Francine. Loving father and father-in-law to Tracy and Mark Bradley, of Discovery Bay and Lisa Nelson, of Danville. Loving grandfather to Jenny and Erin.
Dennis was born on December 22, 1928 in New York and moved to San Carlos as a young boy. He attended Central Grammar School in San Carlos and Sequoia High School in Redwood City. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his military service he attended Menlo College and Cal Poly. In 1955 Dennis and Francine moved to Los Angeles where he worked as an extra in the movies. Two of the films he appeared in were “The Ten Commandments” and “Bus Stop.” Dennis also competed in numerous bodybuilding competitions, winning the 1955 Mr. Muscle Beach title.
In 1958, he opened the Dennis Nelson Health Club in San Carlos. Eight years later he moved the club to Redwood City. In 1984 Dennis retired after 26 years in business.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road , Redwood City . There will be a visitation at 10:00 a.m. and a service at 11:00 a.m.
