Edward J. Gonnella, at peace on September 22, 2009, age 91. Born in Lima, OH, on May 26, 1918. Son of the late Victor F. and Bertha V. (Swallow) Gonnella. Survived by his wife Elizabeth M. (McCarthy) Gonnella and his sister, Margaret M. Gonnella of Lima, OH.

Survived by his children Michael (Jean) Gonnella of Spokane, WA; Barbara Dilts of Franklin, TN; Madeleine Licavoli of Daly City, CA; Regina Gonnella of San Bruno, CA; Robert (Serge) Gonnella of Toulouse, France; Antoinette (Calogero) Marrali of Licata, Italy; Dorothy (Teofilo) Gonzalez of Goleta, CA; his grandchildren Christopher and Lisa Gonnella of Spokane, WA; Matthew (Lisa) Dilts of Jackson, MI; Andrew Dilts of Portland, OR; Philip Dilts of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Simon Dilts of Jekyll Island, GA; Joanna (Toshia) Caravita of Austin, TX; Greg (Jennifer) Rougley of Daly City, CA; Jennifer (Tyler) Floyd of Petal, MS; Valeria and Martina Marrali of Licata, Italy; Jeanmarie, Alexis, Julia, Teofilo and Paolo Gonzalez of Goleta, CA; his step great grandchildren Cynthia Atkinson of Jackson, MI, and Mi-Jacklyn of the Philippines.

Preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Jean M. (Kraus) Gonnella; his daughter, Marian Leos; two brothers, Charles and Thomas Gonnella; four sisters, Alice Van Horn Scudder, Ruth, Rosemary and Elizabeth Gonnella.

Graduate of St. Rose High School, Lima, OH, and the University of Detroit, MI. Upon graduation in 1941, he worked for Lima Locomotive Works, which became an important war plant during WWII. Afterwards he traveled to Mexico and worked for the consulate in Guadalajara for two years. He then moved to San Francisco, CA, and worked for Pan American Airlines from 1947 to 1959. In 1948 he married Jean M. Kraus of Pontiac, MI (formerly of Lima, OH), and they settled in San Bruno, CA. From 1959 until his retirement in 1980 from the San Bruno School District, he worked in various positions. In 1979 he married Elizabeth M. McCarthy of San Carlos, CA.

Viewing will be on Friday, September 25, 2009, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel, 1111 Alameda de las Pulgas, Belmont. Rosary and Vigil will be at Crippen & Flynn Carlmont Chapel on Friday, September 25, 2009, starting at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at 10:00 am at St. Mark's Church, 325 Marine View, Belmont. Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Worker House, P.O. Box 513, Redwood City, CA 94064.
