Don Luba
Resident of San Carlos
Don Luba was born in San Francisco on March 15, 1932 and died August 4, 2009 in San Carlos, CA. The Luba family moved to Redwood City in 1933. Don attended Mt. Carmel Elementary School and Sequoia High School. Don worked in construction operating heavy equipment including: dozers, shovels, drag lines and cranes until he was drafted into the Army in 1952. He served in combat during the Korean War in the 120th Combat Engineers, 45th Infantry Division. Don went to work as a union representative for Operating Engineers Local #3 in 1968. He worked overseas heading construction projects in Indonesia and Africa. He also worked on the Alaskan pipeline. Don retired as treasurer of Operating Engineers Local #3 in 1994 after being a union member for 58 years. Don loved to fly. He started flying in 1965 with the purchase of a Luscombe. His latest plane was a 1947 Navion that he rebuilt for the last 5 years. Don was preceded in death by his father Herbert Luba of Redwood City in 1928 and his mother Theresa Luba in 1976. Don is survived by his wife Margie who have been married for 52 years and resided in San Carlos for 45 years. Son Kirk Luba and daughter in law Krissy reside in Half Moon Bay. Daughter Roxanne Harding and husband Steve reside in South Lake Tahoe. Don has 4 grandchildren Alexandria Luba, Grace, Katie, and Kimberly Harding. Sister Jeanne Knuedler, brother - in - law Frank Knuedler, nephews Greg and Don Knuedler. Funeral Mass will be at St. Matthias Church at 1685 Cordilleras Rd. Redwood City, CA on Saturday August 8th at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Lung Assoc.
