John Charles Vande Voorde

John Vande Voorde passed away peacefully in San Francisco on July 11, 2009. He is survived by his brother, Paul (Lisa) Vande Voorde of San Mateo, and his sister, Mary Ommen, of Lead, S.D., as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
John was born to Felix and Blanche Vande Voorde on May 18, 1946, and raised in Chamberlain, S.D. He attended Notre Dame University before moving to San Francisco in 1968. A resident of the Great Highway since 1974, he was fortunate to call Ocean Beach his home. For John, it was a never-ending source of energy and inspiration, and of solace and reflection. After a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, John devoted his life to his writing, which he pursued up until his final days. We will always remember John as a devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, and uncle, and for being the unique, kind individual that he was. May he rest in peace.
