FILOMENA HERNANDEZ ROCKWELL
Many who knew her are of the opinion “she has danced her way into heaven.”
Born in Oahu, HI on January 20, 1933, Filomena passed into an even better life at home in Redwood City surrounded by loving family and friends on June 8, 2009.
Beloved wife of Administrative Law Judge Justin Rockwell, devoted mother of Massage Therapist Janice Denise Druskis, she is survived by sister Genevieve and brothers Emelio Augustine and Benjamin Toro, and will be missed by numerous family, friends and devoted co-workers.
Dedicating over 40 years of exemplary service to the State of California , she retired as Office Manager, San Francisco Office of Appeals, CUIAB.
Long known for her hospitality and cherished for her culinary skills and acts of kindness, Filomena supported many charities, especially animals-in-crisis organizations and overseas children-in-need programs.
Before “Dancing With The Stars” became a TV sensation, she was intrigued by the intricacies of ballroom dance, having a passion for Latin rhythms which she transformed into tantalizing impromptu free-style steps to the delight of others on and off the floor.
Family, friends and former co-workers are invited to share in a celebration of Filomena’s life at a Vigil Service on Friday, June 19, 2009 at 7:00 pm at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Rd., Redwood City and a Memorial Mass on Saturday, June 20 at 11:00 am at St. Matthias Church, 1685 Cordilleras Rd., Redwood City.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1390 Market Street, Ste 1200 , San Francisco , CA 94102-5306 with particular reference to research support and clinical studies for the cure of T-cell, Prolymphocitic Leukemia.
