GEORGE "ELWOOD" O'NEAL Sr.

Mr. George "Elwood" O'Neal Sr., 86, passed away Tuesday July 3,2007, at his home in Somerville. He was born in Gibson Co. In. on June 25,1921 to George and Sarah Reed O'Neal. He had worked at Chrysler, Mid-States and retired from Whirlpool. George belonged to the I.U.E. Local 808 Union and to the American Legion. He served as a Army Medic during WWII in the African-Middle Eastern Theater (Sicily) receiving the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct, American Campaign, WWII Victory, Combat Medical and African Middle Eastern Campaign medals.

George "Elwood" was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hubert and Roger, one sister, Nellie Pruitt and one grandson, Jason.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ruth (Green) and four children: George (Marilyn) O'Neal Jr. of Evansville, Sue (John) Miller of Oakland City, Daniel (Debbie) O'Neal of Somerville and Ann Doerner of Somerville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren: Annette, Beverly, Christina, Jennifer, Jamie, Jessica, Daniel, Mitchell, Krystie, Natasha, Julie; 12 great grandchildren and 2 nieces, Bonnie and Peggy and 2 nephews, Harold and Roger Jr.

Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 6,2007 at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home in Oakland City with the Rev. David Brandon officiating. The burial will be in the Somerville Cemetery where the Somerville and Oakland City American Legions will provide military rites.

Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. until service time on Friday at the Corn Colvin Funeral Home.
