Mason City- Bernard N. Naumann, 87, of Mason City died Friday, October 2, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A private funeral mass for family only will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 North Adams, Mason City with Monsignor John Hemann officiating. Burial will be held at the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Monday, October 5, 2009 at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Bernard.

Bernard was born on January 30, 1922, the son of George and Rose (Scheu) Naumann in Floyd County, Iowa. He had two younger brothers and four younger sisters. Bernard married Edythe (Waters) on June 13, 1944, in Roseville, Iowa and to this union two children were born.

Bernard graduated from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, IL, and served in the United States Army-Airforce during WWII. He owned and operated Naumann Electric until his retirement at age 75.

In his spare time Bernard enjoyed camping, fishing and going on car rides. He also helped with the Boy Scouts when his son was younger. Bernard also liked to fix up radios and T.V.’s. Most of all Bernard loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years Edythe, Mason City, a son Gary Naumann , Excelsior Springs, MO, a daughter Carolyn (Gene) Riles, Sheffield, grandchildren Scott (Danielle) Naumann, Dougherty, Susan (Carey) Umbarger, Garner, Staci L. (Mark) Mellman, Mason City, Sonya (Jeff Skinner) Naumann, Iowa City, Pam (Daren) Meints, Sheffield, Kathy Riles, Independence, MO, great grandchildren Nicholas and Morgan Naumann, Gabe, Grady and Sam Umbarger, Payton, Myah and Avery Mellman, Ethan and Collin Meints.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.
