Merle F. Pannhoff

Mason City- Merle F. Pannhoff, 79, of 1601 9th Street Southwest, Mason City, died Friday, (October 2, 2009) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, (October 5, 2009 ) at the United Methodist Church, 10 South Wiemar, Ventura, Iowa with Pastor Rhoda Preston and Pastor Ed Bard officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m., Sunday,( October 4, 2009) at Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street Northeast, Mason City.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Merle.

Merle was born June 1, 1930, the son of John and Annie (Heginger) Pannhoff in rural Hancock County, Iowa. He attended country school and Ventura High School. Merle married Ruth (Beaver) on February 9, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and to this union 3 children were born. Merle was a farmer most of his life from 1951-1992.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, dancing, and roller-skating. He was a champion horseshoe player and liked to play pool. Most of all Merle loved farming; it was his hobby as well as his job. For a number of winters, Merle and Ruth would go to Arizona. Merle loved having company over and every Tuesday Merle and Ruth would invite their friends over for coffee.

Merle was a member of the United Methodist Church in Ventura and served on the County Extension Services Board.

He is survived by his wife Ruth, Mason City, his children Terry (Vicki) Pannhoff, Owasso, OK, Gene (Julie) Pannhoff, Mason City and Janita (Patrick) Cavanaugh, Stockton, CA, 5 grandchildren, one great grandchild,his brother Raymond (Lorena) Pannhoff, his sister Mary (Curtis) Clark, his sister-in-law Marlene Kester, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Lyle, Dean and Kenneth and Arlene Lovik.
