Thornton-Roy Herman Baack 89 of Thornton, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

A funeral service for Roy will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 3, 2009, at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 Larch Street, Thornton, with Pastor Milton D. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Thornton. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, is in charge of the arrangements.

Roy Herman Baack was born April 21, 1920, on a farm near Klemme the son of Herman and Lilly (Blumer) Baack. He attended a rural school near Klemme. He was united in marriage to Berneice Annetta Thada on April 5, 1942, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage, they farmed together in the Thornton area.

After the death of Berneice in 2003, Roy continued to live on the home farm until moving to Whetstone Gardens assisted living center in Columbus, Ohio.

Roy enjoyed farming, gardening, dancing, camping, fishing and hunting, but his great love and enjoyment was his family.

He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Ben (Vicki); two grandchildren, Natasha (Nathan) Weaver and Jeremy (Jason Williamson) Baack; of Columbus, Ohio; two great grandchildren, Madison and Megan Weaver all of Columbus, Ohio; his brothers, Robert (Ruth) Baack, of Britt and Richard (Jean) Baack, of Klemme, as well as other extended family members and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Berneice on July 20, 2003, one brother, and three sisters.
