Doyle was born on August 2, 1921, in Kensett, the son of Raymond and Mabel (Hildreth) Boutelle. Doyle graduated from Kensett High School and Mason City Junior College. Doyle was inducted into the U.S. Air Force on March 27, 1943 at Camp Dodge, Iowa, and served with the 492nd Bomb Squadron serving in Burma and India during WWII, and was honorably discharged at Corporal on November 13, 1945 at Fort Sheridan, Ill. On January 16, 1944, Doyle was united in marriage to Dorothy Flarup at the First United Methodist Church in Mason City, and to this union two daughters were born, Carol and Lonnie. Dorothy preceded him in death on May 31, 1988. On December 28, 1991, Doyle was united in marriage to Thelma (Frandle) Krull at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Doyle’s working years included working at International Harvester in Mason City and Hanlontown. In 1957, Doyle and his family moved to Northwood where Doyle was part owner in the Northwood Implement Company. After many years Doyle was ready for a new challenge. Doyle and John Thompson started J-D One Stop, which they operated for many years. Doyle’s other accomplishments included establishing a garden center, building and operating a car wash, building the Viking Restaurant and the development of Northwood Mobile Home Park.

Doyle was the proud grandpa of five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Doyle was an avid golfer, loved boating, a die-hard Minnesota Viking and Northwood-Kensett Viking fan, loved to go camping in his travel trailer, and enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities where ever they might lead him. He loved woodworking and built many things in his shop for family and friends. He was very active in the United Methodist Church in Northwood, serving on and chairing numerous committees and singing in the church choir. He was also very active in the Northwood Lions Club and was very community minded.

Doyle was an extremely easy going and patient person. He always looked on the bright side of things and always had a quiet and positive demeanor. “Well isn’t that nice” was always Doyle’s response when one of his family showed him something new.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Thelma Boutelle of Northwood, daughter’s Carol (Phil) Johnson of Mason City, and Lonnie (Steve) Forland of Northwood, grandchildren; Lance (Tina) Johnson of Mason City, Todd (Sarah) Johnson of Cedar Falls, Amy Scheib of Ankeny and Chad (Tara) Forland of Emmons, MN, great-grandchildren; Reid Johnson, Reilly, Tate and Vance Johnson, McKenna, Raegan and Kamryn Scheib, Kyle Dion and Brooke Forland, step-children; Brenda (Russ) Ober of Leesburg, GA, Linda (Tom) Engstrom of Mankato, MN, James (Teresa) Krull of Northwood, Eldon (Janice) Krull of Marshall, MN, and Paul (Cynthia) Krull of Northwood, step-grandchildren; Erika (James) Livermont, Christopher Ober, Kristin Engstrom, Peder Engstrom, Jesse (Erin) Krull, Chad (Allyson) Krull, Benjamin Krull, Katelyn Krull, Kayla, John and Tara Krull, one step-great granddaughter; Emma Livermont, sister-in-law; Gayle Boutelle of Mason City, many nieces, nephews as well as other extended family members and friends.
