Velma Ruth Warren, 88, of 501 S. 9th St., Clear Lake, Iowa died Thursday Sept. 10, 2009 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 2:30p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa with Rev. Rhoda Preston officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Family will greet friends Monday one hour before the service at the church. Family suggests memorials to the Velma Warren memorial fund to be used to establish a Scholarship at the Clear Lake High School .
Velma was born January 23, 1921 in Faulkner, Iowa the daughter of Charles and Emma (Peters) Roegner. She graduated from Geneva High School in 1938.
Velma married Marion Warren Nov. 9, 1942 in Unionville, Missouri. They lived in Geneva from 1945 till 1959. They then moved to Clear Lake, where she has lived in present home for over fifty years.
She worked part time for the Clear Lake Sale Barn and later the Garner Sale Barn.
Velma was an avid sports fan, listening to all the Clear Lake Lions, Hawkeye’s and Twins ballgames. She enjoyed fishing, playing cards and doing word puzzles.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.
Velma is survived by her son Dennis Warren and his wife Patti, Ankeny, Iowa; five grandchildren Jeff Warren and his wife Tara, Excelsior, Minnesota, Kim Compton and her husband Chris, Ankeny, Iowa, Ashley Ferin, Ankeny, Iowa, Lindsey Ferin, Waterloo, Iowa and Whitney Ferin, Iowa City, Iowa; five great-grandchildren Cadence Compton, Brooklynn Compton, Jackson Compton, Lael Warren and Logan Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marion Warren, 2001; one brother Bob Roegner and three sisters Lucille Abbas, Ruth Hofmeister and Leona Woodley.
