Cathleen I. Niederkohr, age 87 formerly of Ash Dr. & Co. Rd. 44 Upper Sandusky died in the Wyandot County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Upper Sandusky on Friday Oct. 9, 2009 at 9:25 a.m. She was born on July 28, 1922 to the late Arthur E. Stief and Imo (Roth) Stief. She married Leonard J. Niederkohr on July 29, 1941 in Angola, IN and he preceded her in death on March 2, 1992.

Cathleen has 9 surviving sons Bernie (Sandy) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, OH, Tom (Toni) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, OH, Rick (Ok) Niederkohr, Woodbridge, VA, Jim (Keiko) Niederkohr, Nago City, Okinawa, Japan, Bill (Vicky) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, Joe (Margaret) Niederkohr, Caledonia, OH, John (Neen) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, OH, Ron (Margee) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, OH, Don (Jami) Niederkohr, Upper Sandusky, OH, 1 daughter June (Steve) Phillips, Loveland, OH, 22 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 17 step great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, a brother Jim (Barb) Stief, Upper Sandusky, She was preceded in death by a infant daughter Linda, 2 grandchildren, a great grandchild and a brother Foster Stief.

She was a member of Transfiguration of The Lord Catholic Church, Upper Sandusky where she was active in C. L. C., past president of the Rosary Altar Society, past bingo worker, St. Peter’s Festival volunteer, St. Peter School play ground supervisor, Peter’s Pen Newsletter committee, Sunday collection money counter, and funeral dinner committee, St. Vincent De Paul’s Society and helped to start the former St. Vincent De Paul thrift shop. Cathleen graduated from the former Salem Twp. School where she was a Salem Corn Husker Cheerleader. She was a homemaker and co-owner and operator of the Colonial Laundry Mat. Cathleen was a member of the Wyandot Memorial Hospital Guild. She volunteered at the hospital for many years delivering mail to patients and passing out visitor cards. Since 1992, she had volunteered over 1300 hours, with additional tasks. Cathleen helped with bingo at the former Wyandot Manor and at the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing Home for over 14 years. She was a blood donor and volunteered at the American Red Cross. She was a former member of the American Legion Aux., Harpster Travel Club. In 1985 Cathleen received the Mother of the Year award from the Daily Chief Union and in 1997 she received a plaque for her dedication to community service. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, eating out with her lady friends and family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wed. Oct. 14, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. in the Transfiguration of the Lord Catholic Church with Father Frederick Schill officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peters Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tues. Oct. 13, 2009 from 2-8 p.m. at BRINGMAN CLARK Funeral Home with a prayer service at 8 p.m. followed by a C. L. C. memorial service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peters School Endowment Fund, Wyandot County Skilled Nursing Home or the Wyandot Memorial Hospital in care of BRINGMAN CLARK Funeral Home 226 E.
