“Pops”
Robert, age 85, of Appleton, fell asleep in God’s arms surrounded by his loving family Thursday, August 20, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center. He was born June 20, 1924, in Chicago, son of the late Robert P. and Winifred (Harmon) Williams. He married Genevieve Boens, September 8, 1951, sharing 57 years together. Robert and Genevieve resided in Hortonville for 28 years before moving to Appleton in 1993. He was a sales representative for Zep Manufacturing and retired in 1990.
Robert was a past member of St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Hortonville and a current member of St. Pius. X Catholic Church of Appleton. He was active in Hortonville High School athletics for many years and a volunteer coach for basketball at St. Peter & Paul grade school. He enlisted in the Army, Army Corps of Engineers, during WW II and served in both the European Theater and Asian Theater. He was member of the Hortonville Legion Post #55, the Disabled American Veterans, and served as part of the Funeral Honor Guard for Post #55. Robert was an avid golfer and a charter member of the Hortonville Grand View Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, Genevieve, Appleton; 5 sons and 3 daughters-in-law: Richard and Susan Williams, Black Creek; Gregory Williams, New London; Kevin and Eileen Williams, Valders; Brian and Tyah Williams, West Allis; Christopher Williams, Appleton; 9 grandchildren: Charles, Maria, Megan, Jacob, Ivy, Jordyn, Joseph, Julian and Roman. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law: Mary and Raymond Marsden and their son Michael Marsden; 3 aunts: Lucy Harmon, Margaret Harmon and Irene Harmon.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 AM, Tuesday, August 25, 2009, at St. Pius X. Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., with Rev. Andrew Kysely officiating. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Monday from 4 PM until 7 PM and at the church on Tuesday from 10 Am until the time of service. A parish wake service will be held Monday evening at 6:30 PM. A memorial fund has been established.
