Appleton
Age 83, passed peacefully away to his Heavenly Father surrounded by his family on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, at Appleton Medical Center.
Del was born in Appleton on June 15, 1926, to the late Walter and Amanda (Tews) Nieland. He proudly served his country as a gunner in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He also served in the Army Reserve. On January 27, 1951, Del was united in marriage to Adeline E. Schmitz. The couple has enjoyed 58 years together. Del worked as a steamfitter for AZCO for 20 years, and then for August Winters for 10 years retiring in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, Sheepshead, woodworking, and sharing laughter and good times with family and friends. He was a member of Appleton VFW Post #2778, a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #400, and was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Del is survived by his wife Adeline Nieland, Appleton; 4 daughters: Barbara (Mark) Spaude, Appleton; Susan (Richard) Springer, Cincinnati; Bonnie (Michael) Hintz, Appleton; and Sharon Miller, Appleton; 2 sons: Lawrence Nieland, Appleton and Russell (Sheryl) Nieland, Little Chute; 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Delores Maas, Appleton and Beverly Harke, Kimberly; 2 brothers: Marvin (Jan) Nieland, Medina and James (Barb) Nieland, Appleton. He is further survived by many other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Judy, 2 brothers in law: Elwood Harke and Eugene Maas, and a sister in law Carol Nieland.
A Funeral Service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, August 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 323 N. Morrison St., Appleton, with the Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Friends may visit at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Thursday (TONIGHT) from 4 – 7 pm and directly at the church on Friday from 3 pm until the time of service. Interment with full military honors will take place at Highland Memorial Park at 10 am Monday, August 10.
A memorial fund is being established in Delmar’s name for St. Paul Lutheran Church and the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
