Mrs. Earl “Whitey”
Bernice, age 91, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Appleton Health Care Center. She was born October 4, 1917, in Appleton, daughter of the late Walter and Dorothy (Werner) Brinkman. She married Earl “Whitey” Schabo December 14, 1946, sharing 59 years together before his death June 24, 2006.
Bernice was member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, Appleton American Legion Auxiliary, Appleton VFW Auxiliary, Cootie Auxiliary, the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Appleton Lady Elks. She was recognized by the City of Appleton for not missing a vote since 1945.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Daniel Schommer, Valrico, FL; a son and daughter-in-law: Roger and Linda Schabo, Appleton; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: William and Florence Brinkman, Wild Rose, WI; Robert and Joan Brinkman, Appleton, 2 sisters and brothers-in-law: Dorothy and Robert Lizon, Madison; Dolores and Bruce Henning, Appleton; 5 grandchildren: Tracey (Tim) Rusch; Amanda Schabo; David Schabo; Patrick (Jenn) Schommer and Ryan (Diane) Schommer; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 4 sons: Dale, Don, and twin sons, Terry and Jerry; a great grandson: James Schommer; 7 brothers. Orville, Clifford, Eugene, John, Lloyd, Kenneth and Carlton Brinkman.
Services will be held 11 AM, Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade St. with Rev. Bruce Pangborn officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 PM to 7 PM and at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to Appleton Health Care Center and Theda Care at Home Hospice for the wonderful care Bernice received during her stay.
